Here are some clips from the ceilidh we played at Sidmouth in the Blackmore Marquee this year, with guest star Ed Rennie on banjo and callers Fee Lock and Gordon Potts.  The recording came from the mixing desk and therefore sounds 'flatter' than the sound that came out of the PA speakers.  Apparently this is normal in the sound desk world, so I am told!

The Tannerman- written by Flos Headford and an established classic
Paddy Carey- a 48 bar 3 part jig
Morgan Rattler- 48 jig
Gypsy's HornpipeColeford Jig - which is a hornpipe despite its name!
Weasel in the Grass - a 'modern' 48 jig which goes nicely with Sbrando
Sbrando- a 17th century Italian 48 jig
Captain Leno's March - a 32 bar 2 part jig
Silverton Polka- a 64 bar 4 part polka
Schottische A Carole- unknown origin, I heard somewhere and sort of remembered it!

If you go to our myspace music page www.myspace.com/montysmaggot you'll be able to listen to a few of these session tunes below in full. They were recorded during various sessions, hence the background chatter - we've not yet got around to going into a studio to produce some demo tracks!

Some short clips are here:
The Coleford Jig- which is actually a hornpipe
Fish and 'taters - a polka
Poor but honest sailor- a lovely minor key polka
The Weavers' March

You'll notice the driving downstrokes and doublestopping that characterises Flos' fiddle playing which is what makes our tunes so danceable.  While most of our tunes are English in origin, if we play a tune that isn't English, you'll probably agree that it's one that should be!

Here's a file of dance tuneswe often like to play in ABC format which has been collected by searching the internet.  You'll need the free programme from http://abcnotation.com to open the file.  Some Blowzabella and Euro tunes are here, and traditional songs here
